Opportunity to hear from constituents regarding Governor Walker’s plans to reduce health care benefits

November 1, 2011
Contact:  Sen. Vinehout (608) 266-8546

EAU CLAIRE – Sen. Kathleen Vinehout (D-Alma) announced she will host a public hearing to invite comments on Governor Walker’s proposed cuts to the Medicaid program.

“Medicaid is a lifeline to one in five people in Wisconsin,” noted Vinehout. “Sweeping changes affect many western Wisconsin families. This hearing gives people a chance to comment on the changes.”

This hearing is part of a series of events being hosted by Democrats statewide in response to the Department of Health Services’ plan to make $554 million in cuts to the state’s health care programs for eligible seniors, children, families and people with disabilities.

DHS held hearings in Madison and Milwaukee, but it is important to hear from people in all corners of the state.  This proposal will have significant impact on the affordability of health care and critical health services available to tens of thousands of Wisconsin residents.

There will be a brief presentation on the proposed cuts at the start of the hearing. The public is then encouraged to share comments and personal stories.
